Seminyak – Relax, Shop & Family Memories
We travelled back to Bali with Rocky Fast Cruise, which I can honestly recommend. The weather was much calmer on the return, but it’s worth pointing out – make sure you book with a safe and reputable company. The crossing can be quite wild, so it’s best to have everything sorted in advance. Most companies offer hotel-to-hotel pick-up, which makes things a lot easier.
In Seminyak we stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Bali Seminyak Resort, a great base for exploring the area. The hotel is modern and comfortable with spacious rooms, great beds, reliable wifi. Our room had direct pool access, which was great with kids. There are several restaurants, a spa, a fitness centre, and good family facilities. It really suited us perfectly. The kids’ favourite part? Popcorn and candyfloss being served in the afternoons.
Three nights in Seminyak
We stayed three nights in Seminyak and spent most of our time relaxing and wandering around the town. One day we visited Seminyak Village, a shopping centre in the heart of town, and also enjoyed exploring the many smaller boutique shops. We found jewellery, clothes, and home décor that weren’t just typical souvenirs but beautifully made pieces from local artisans. Bali is also a great place for woven goods – baskets, bags and other handicrafts – the perfect way to bring a bit of the island home.
Breakfast at the Marriott was incredible with so much choice, I can really recommend it. On our last evening we had dinner at the hotel as well. It was there, while chatting about the earthquake we’d experienced in Ubud, that our table began to shake – and yes, it turned out to be another earthquake. This time closer to Bali. The staff were calm and professional, guiding everyone outside until it passed. I’ll admit, at that point I was starting to look forward to going home. In the 18 days we’d been in Indonesia, there had been a volcanic eruption, two earthquakes with tsunami warnings, and unusually high waves. The Balinese took it all in their stride, but as Danes we’re not used to this sort of thing, so at the time it felt like a lot. While we felt secure as visitors, our minds were on the Balinese and Indonesians who had to face the real impact of this. Still, it doesn’t put me off going back. Bali is a truly special place. Next time I’d love to see the north of the island – we never made it further than Ubud.
Wrapping Up Our Bali Adventure
Bali really is one of those places that stays with you long after you’ve left. From our relaxed start in Nusa Dua to the culture and chaos of Ubud, the laid-back island feel of Nusa Lembongan, and even our bumpy adventure over on Nusa Penida – every stop gave us something different. Travelling with children meant we took things at a gentler pace, but that actually made us appreciate the island even more. Beautiful nature, kind people, good food, and plenty of little surprises along the way – Bali gave us a family holiday we’ll never forget.
