Where to Eat in Salzburg – Our Favourite Finds
We spent four days in Salzburg and ended up eating at some lovely places – a mix of casual bites, dinners and even a little hidden gem. Here’s a round-up of where we ate, plus a few extra spots we passed by and noted for next time.
Kombu (at Numa Salzburg Mozart)
We arrived a bit late one evening, staying at the very lovely Numa Salzburg Mozart (Franz-Josef-Straße 27), and ended up ordering in from Kombu, which shares the entrance with the hotel. A very kind waiter took our order even though it was very close to closing time: three kinds of sushi and the Bang-bang shrimp. It all came up on a tray, and we ate in our room – really nive after a long train trip to get there. Everything was freshly made and delicious, and there was plenty to fill us up. The shrimp are a must! Next day we just returned the tray. Passing by Kombu in daylight, the little outdoor tables and friendly staff made it look so inviting. We would definitely return.

Schloss Leopoldskron – Meierhof Bar
One afternoon we cycled out to Schloss Leopoldskron. I had booked a table at their Meierhof Bar. Honestly, it’s a must. The grounds are stunning, and you can only get in with a reservation. We had an Aperol Stripz and a soda, wandered around the lake and gardens, and just soaked it all in before cycling back into town. A completely different side of Salzburg – calm, elegant and very special. But don’t forget to book, the gates are closed if you don’t have a reservation.

Die Cabreras
On our second night we had Mexican food at Die Cabreras (Priesterhausgasse 20). We booked in advance (wise move, it was packed). We sat in their lovely courtyard, shared Guacamole and totopos to start, Filippa had chicken quesadillas, I had tacos cochinitos. Perfect food, nicely spiced, and served steaming hot. If you go, start with the guacamole – it’s great for sharing.

Ping Pong Poke
One lighter dinner we had close to Mirabell Garten at Ping Pong Poke (Münzgasse 1). We ate outside in the nice weather, picked bowls that were fresh, colourful and healthy. The staff were sweet, very easy going. A great option if you want something lighter after big lunches.

A Few More Worth Mentioning
We didn’t manage to eat everywhere we wanted, but these caught our eye as we walked around or were recommended to us:
-
Café Tomaselli – said to be the oldest café in Salzburg, a great spot for coffee and cake.
-
Augustiner Bräustuben – a traditional beer hall with Austrian classics and a lively atmosphere.
-
Eis Greissler – small-batch Austrian ice cream, perfect for a treat on a warm day.
If there’s one thing we learnt from eating our way around Salzburg, it’s that a little planning goes a long way. Popular spots like Die Cabreras and Schloss Leopoldskron really do need a reservation if you don’t want to miss out. And don’t forget that many smaller cafés and restaurants close earlier than you might expect, so it’s worth checking opening hours before you go. A bit of prep – and an empty stomach – is all you need to enjoy Salzburg’s food scene to the fullest.
