We’ve just come back from two weeks in Mauritius this July. Since so many people, like me, seem unsure about what the weather is actually like at that time of year, I thought I’d share our own first hand experience. Before we went, we weren’t quite sure what to expect—after all, July is technically winter there, and reviews online range from radiant to rainy.
Booking a trip in july – what to expect?
In reality, the weather was fantastic. Most days were a steady 24-25°C, which felt perfect: warm enough for the beach but not so hot that exploring felt exhausting. Out of our 14 days, only one was quite grey and rainy all day long. Even that day turned into a highlight, because we hopped into our hired car and drove to Port Louis for shopping. Having a car really is a huge advantage— well once you’ve got the hang of driving on the left, it gives you so much freedom to make the most of your time.
Another thing we quickly noticed was how much location matters in July. We stayed entirely on the west coast, where the weather is generally calmer and warmer. While scrolling Instagram, we saw people on the east coast posting about windy days and showers, while we were on the beach soaking up the sun. That’s why I’d definitely recommend picking your base carefully. If you want to enjoy those golden sunsets and the endless stretches of white sandy beaches, a place like Paradis Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa, one of the island’s luxury resorts, is in a great spot on the west side. We stayed there for five nights.
Even the cloudier days were never wasted. Around midday there were sometimes a few hours of grey skies, but it cleared again soon after. In fact, it made exploring much more comfortable—whether you’re heading inland to the mountains or just strolling along the beach. So, would we recommend Mauritius in July? Absolutely. For us, it was the ideal mix of sunshine, comfortable temperatures, and the occasional excuse to explore beyond the beach. Just remember: choose your coast wisely, and if you can, rent a car. It makes the whole experience even better.
